Permanent representation of young people in the Internet Society
Established in 2015 as the Youth Observatory and primarily composed of young people from Latin America and the Caribbean, the group has since evolved into a global community of young leaders.
The main objective of the Youth SG is to promote the Internet’s development as a positive force in society. The group emphasizes the training of young people in Internet governance issues, enabling them to participate actively in regional and international forums.
The Youth Standing Group is a regular participant in the annual Global Internet Governance Forum, where it organizes various sessions, workshops, and networking events for young people. These events provide a platform for young people to engage with one another and learn from experts in the field. By advocating for youth representation in Internet governance, the Youth SG is empowering the next generation of leaders to shape the Internet’s future for the better.

Inception
The Youth Observatory is founded as a nonprofit organization aimed at increasing youth participation in Internet governance discussions in Latin America and the Caribbean. This initiative emerges from the Youth@IGF 2015 program, which successfully engages 120 young participants.
The first physical meeting of Youth Observatory members occurs during the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Joao Pessoa, Brazil. Objectives are finalized, responsibilities are assigned, and communication channels are established to formalize the organization.

As a Special Interest Group (SIG)
The Youth Observatory receives official recognition from the Internet Society (ISOC) as a Special Interest Group (SIG). This status grants the group rights enjoyed by local ISOC chapters, including funding, advice, and logistical support.
The Youth Standing Group becomes a regular participant in annual IGFs, organizing sessions, workshops, and networking events for young people. The group emphasizes training young leaders in Internet governance issues to empower them to engage actively in regional and international forums.
