Youth Atlas

About

Youth Atlas

In an era where the Internet plays a pivotal role in shaping societies, the Youth Atlas emerges as a significant publication that amplifies the voices of young individuals engaged in Internet governance. Launched in November 2019, this collaborative effort by the Youth Observatory and the Youth Special Interest Group of the Internet Society aims to document and celebrate the contributions of youth in this critical field.

Inception

An Approach of Youth@IGF

The inception of the Youth Atlas can be traced back to a growing recognition of the need for increased youth participation in Internet governance processes. In 2015, the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) identified a gap in youth involvement at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). This led to the creation of the Youth@IGF program, designed to empower the next generation of leaders and ensure that young voices are heard in discussions about the future of the Internet. Over the years, this initiative has successfully brought together hundreds of young participants from around the world, fostering a vibrant community dedicated to shaping Internet policies.

The Youth Atlas serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it provides a platform for young people to share their experiences, challenges, and aspirations in the realm of Internet governance. By documenting these narratives, the atlas not only highlights the diverse perspectives of youth but also emphasizes the importance of their involvement in shaping policies that affect their lives. Furthermore, it acts as a resource for researchers, policymakers, and organizations looking to understand the dynamics of youth engagement in this field.
